Thank you very much for sharing this. I’m excited to start learning this as well as some other native things. My father is native and has lived in Alaska pretty much his whole life and I want to learn more about my heritage and such. We should all use God’s natural gifts. Thank you again.
Please make a full tutorial! I would love to learn how to make this. I am not native but i want to help preserve the culture. It’s important we show the world how it’s done here.
Hello would you consider making a video on how to properly cure the grass once it has been collected? This would be much appreciated because I cannot find anything on the internet that provides info on how to actually cure grass. Most just tell you how hard it is and ect…but I would really like to know the steps and skills. My daughter is part Yup’ik and has taught herself to weave baskets by a woody root or vine she found outside. She found how to cure the root and weave it using a needle like in your video. Before she used only her hands. A couple days ago her Dad and her (who is Yup’ik) went and collected the grass, about two big bundles. She is planning to clean and separate the grass by which is healthiest and then leave it in a dry dark place until golden and pliable. I understand this video was published a long time ago but my daughter would really appreciate this, if you are up for it. Thank you for your video it’s been played back and turned up so that she can suck in as much information possible.
Thank you for this! I would love to see more videos…. Like how to start the base and add more grass into the coil. I love learning these skills!
