“raveled bayetta” is red thread/yarn unraveled from machine-woven red flannel cloth. The Navajo didn’t have red dyes so when they had it available, they unraveled the yarn from machine-made cloth to include in their weaving. In some pieces there are red stripes woven into the piece from raveled bayetta. In this early piece raveled bayetta is used to darn a repair on the edge, possibly much later than when the piece was originally woven.

This is the GOAT in Roadshow Appraisals, unless some little old Italian lady comes in with Mona Lisa’s sister, this will not be bettered.

I went way too deep last night. Kit Carson was a man bent on genocide and a scalper/hunter of Indians. This a murdered mans blanket. He killed so many Indians they can’t put up a number. Probably got it.during the long walk of the Navajo where he forced 12,000 Indians to march 300 miles and starved them the whole way. This needs to be given back

  26. @desie3292 on May 31, 2025 at 2:59 pm

    Who was Kit Carson?.

  27. @elemenz888 on May 31, 2025 at 3:00 pm

Here is my take on these . Please read it. These banquet is a national treasure to who? Who desires these art? The Navajo and all of the indigent people have being weaving since the beginning of time. He appraiser said in the 1840 the navajo Indian came to be know for their weaving and probably is true since rail roads were connecting cities together. As far as these blanket being a national treasure is not. Let explain. If it is a national treasure than the only people that would consider it a national treasure would be the Navajo people and their not pay much for it. These is a scam. These a supply and demand strategy scam. Is an Indian chief blanket these and that. How do we know that? You pay a Navajo a few dollars and tell tell you what you want to hear but is not all true. The blanket could be Navajo made but remember these is away the Navajo made some of their come from and is nothing to especial same with silver Navajo jewelry. Navajo jewelry is abundant of. Why ? Because is a product mass produced by the Indian and having Navajo jewelry is not a rare thing . Go to a reservation and buy jewelry from them but the item won’t go up in price. Same with these blanket. The Navajo people know well about the history of their blankets and their impress not do they believe these story that is being told about the blanket but again their merchants.

I wonder how Kit Carson came to own this blanket, or how the native American chief lost possession of it. There may be a lot of tragedy behind this blanket.
