The Shocking Truth Behind the Purchase of Alaska | Joe Rogan & John Reeves
Was the Alaska Purchase really just a land deal? John Reeves reveals a hidden history—Russia’s role in the Civil War and how $7 million wasn’t just for land, but for wartime support. Joe Rogan and Reeves explore this little-known theory about one of the biggest land deals in history.
Name me name me two Russian ships just named them when the Confederates when they are using ironclad ships
This is the first time that I have ever heard about Russians being involved in any war in America; I hadn’t heard about them coming to the aid of the Union during the Civil War. I knew that the British used Hessian mercenaries during the American Revolutionary War. The things you learn on YouTube.
Not true
So the bill for Russias defense was 7 million bucks. And they gave us Alaska. So Alaska was free? Doesn’t make sense. How is that a win for Russia?
everybody knows that in Russia. just as any other bits of real history. it’s called education.
Nothing the man said is true. This is why I don’t watch Joe Rogen. He’ll put on people who say the stupidist crap.
A whole lot of contradictory assertions are being made here.
I’m no Russia Expert, but when you realize Czar Nicholas, his wife Alexandra, and Wilhelm II, German Emperor were all first cousins of King George V of the United Kingdom. Nicholas was also a first cousin of both King Haakon VII and Queen Maud of Norway, as well as King Christian X of Denmark and King Constantine I of Greece. Per Google. It really puts a different light on things. All the nobility of europe and other states were interrelated. Did they fight or have scuffles? Sure, but it was other people’s lives at stake, and they were just as likely to fight together the next day against a common enemy.
I’m not sure it’s healthy to compare modern warfare with what they did back then. 😢
this is fascinating….I have heard arguments that with the purchase price and all the money sent to Alaska – even with all the oil and salmon and tourism Alaska comes out as a negative. This really rights the scales….
Charleston Blockade? That Was the Union Navy
• Charleston Harbor, a key Confederate port, was under blockade by the U.S. Navy, part of the Anaconda Plan.
• The blockade lasted from 1861 to 1865 and was intended to choke off supplies and commerce to the Confederacy.
• The Russian Navy had no role in that operation.
Russia didn’t even have an effective navy back then much less the resources to sale halfway aroundhe world to get to the atlantic side. I call bogus on this.
The Russian Navy did not blockade Charleston. His guy is full of 💩.
They helped us win the war of independence too, in my opinion not helping and befriending Russia after the fall of the U.S.S.R was one of the stupidest decision the U.S has ever mistaking made. Instead of being one of our most dangerous enemies today we together would be the most incredibly powerful alliance in the world! Instead we must watched as the population of innocent non military combatants starved, corruption ran rampant and dangerous nuclear and other military assest, like wmd’s flooded the black market as one of the only ways they could make money to eat all the while watching U.S tv and all the excess, the incredible wealth and prosperity, causing the resentment for us to fester and grow as most citizens thought the west would come in and help after the communists lost power and fell but instead we turned our back and didn’t answer thier pleas. Shame shame shame smh.
It’s actually close to what happened. Russia did not blockage any southern port during the Civil War. Russia did send a large portion of their fleet and spent several years in union ports so England and France wouldn’t aid the south and attack the union. The Russian fleet freed up the union fleet to blockade southern ports. After the war and after Lincoln was murdered by a southern spy, Russia wanted $3 million. Stewart arranged a deal to buy Alaska for $7 million to cover the land and the "rental" fee of the Russian fleet
Washing money started with governments
See always good to know history
This post is nonsense. Lol
So Russians weren’t so bad after all… they too didn’t stand for slavery back then… sad how low both have fallen today 😢
The shocking truth about Alaska that nobody talks about is that the Russians didn’t own Alaska. We gave 7 million to Alaska because we are too self-absorbed and ignorant to realize that there was a native American culture already existing there for probably thousands of years before we even decided to acknowledge Russia owned Alaska.
Literally nothing he said was true. Must be a graduate from Trump University 😂
Russia lost the Crimer war and it cost them alot so selling Alaska was a good idea at the time.
google it
Really??? Are you a dump
I suspect this is one of those nonsensical "facts" that maybe orignally made sense and got heavily distorted in this guy’s head over time.
Claus Naske was a real scholar of Alaska, and I have no reason to believe they were friendly. Maybe there’s even some truth to the idea that there was some element acknowledging Russia’s support for the Union during the war. But this makes no sense. "Russia blockaded Charleston Harbor"? He almost talks about the purchase like it was money laundering.
Russia also put 300,000 soilders against border of Europe and threatened invasion of Europe if embargo violated my
No they did not blockade Charleston. They needed the 7 mil to pay for the Crimean war.
The Russians stayed in New York and San Francisco Harbor. They were never in Charleston….
So we got two things for the price of one… right. Right
I give eight million
Nobody knows nothing
The Russians did not do the blockade. They were there to discourage European military interference. The blockade had nothing to do with Europe and the Russians did not intervene in our Civil War.
Yankees , communists , what’s the difference ?
Thr russian Navy did not participate in the blockaid
Wrong. The Union navy had no problem blockading the Confederacy. Britain, while they sent military attaches to the Confederacy would not and could not come into the war on their side. Britain had outlawed slavery in 1833 in the entire empire. Now if the war had gone the Confederacy’s way, they would have been happy to work as intermediaries on a peace plan, but that is it. Russia sold us Alaska at the bargain price of 7 million because they needed the money, it was tough to defend as it is on the other side of the Bearing Straight and they hated Britain. It also just looked like an extension of Siberia, Sewards folly as it was called, until gold was struck.
Jesus Christ, no this didn’t happen.
Russia probably wants it back ! Putin definitely regrets that !
I heard this in the early 90s when I was in high school 🇨🇦
False
Alaska wasn’t Russias to sell just as the Louisiana purchase land wasn’t France’s to sell ! I’ll sell you Brazil for $1 million
And the rothchilds swore to end russia
Crazy ass 😅a
Yup!!! October 25, 1861, Road from Sumter -189,
European writer and social activist Karl Marx, published articles in European newspapers championing Lincoln’s move to centralize power like most European socialists of the time.
Marx stated in articles published in England, that, “The war between the North and South is a tariff war. The war, is further, not for any principle, does not touch the question of slavery, and in fact turns on the Northern lust for power.” He and his mentor Fredrick Engels saw the potential of a new “socialist” movement taking shape in America.
Marx later pointed out in his Press article of March 26, 1862, the "considerable mass of military experience that emigrated to America" was of great help to the U.S. armies. Many immigrant officers were recruited, organized, trained and commanded Northern troops. A considerable number of European socialists attained high rank.
Among the foreign-born officers who were brevetted U.S. generals, there were at least ten Scots, six Canadians, five Hungarians and five French, and one each from Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. There were also twenty-four generals born in England and Wales, and twenty-seven in Ireland.
But it was the Germans who contributed the largest socialist contingent to the U.S. forces. Many of the German-born officers were socialist radicals whom Marx knew PERSONALLY. Among them were the U.S. colonels Friedrich Anneke, Friedrich Franz Hecker, and Joseph Weydemeyer —the latter, who commanded in St. Louis, Mo., an especially close friend of Marx.
Among the generals whom Marx had known in their days as German “Revolutionists” were Louis Blenker, who commanded a division in the Army of the Potomac; Alexander Schimmelfennig, who fought at Bull Run, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg; Carl Schurz, who commanded a division at Bull Run and an U.S. Army Corps at Nashville; Franz Sigel, who saw service at Bull Run and in Missouri; and August Willich, who commanded a U.S. brigade in Ohio.
Marx was later to become a comrade of the French-born General Gustave Paul Clusseret, a Paris Communard in 1871, who served under both U.S. Generals McClellan and Fremont. Altogether, at least forty German-born officers, among them a number of German Jews, saw war duty on the side of the Lincoln’s armies and attained the rank of brevet general.

You’re a liar and you giving out false information
shocking. absolutely shocking. I had to seek medical attention I was so shocked.
There was like…one fact in there buried in all the bullshit. Russia did have ships visit the US. Thats about it.
Did anyone bother to ask the native inhabitants their opinion on the deal
During the American Civil War, Russia did not participate in a blockade of Charleston, South Carolina, or any other port. The Union (Northern) Navy implemented a blockade of Confederate ports, including Charleston, to restrict their access to supplies and trade. While the Union sought foreign support, Russia did not send ships to blockade Charleston; instead, Russian squadrons visited American ports in 1863.
Yep they did! England fought us 3 times and t"THEY" are allies??
Wow thanks Taylor swift
wow. they helped the guys who wanted to eliminate slaves.
no russian ship ever took part in charleston blockade
