I make denim rugs on my 48" Cranbrook, named Louise. The denim is old jeans donated by family and friends. I weave the entire 48" width and up to 8′ long for family and friends. The deconstructing the jeans tear up my hands, but I use almost everything on one project or other with few scraps. Good times.

What she’s doing with her hands, when she pushes the yarn down with her fingers, is a process called ‘bubbling’. It evens out the tension in the yarn, so the piece comes out perfectly straight and not squeezed up in the middle.

My late grandmother had this, only 3 times smaller, and I as a 11 y/o girl used to watch her make the rugs for our house and for my aunts in the US. When she wasn’t around, I’d sneak in and try to do it myself. It looked so interesting. Today as 30 y/o I want to do it again and, God willing, I will make my own rugs. 🥰
