When I lived in several countries in Africa. I was somewhat surprised that many were fans of Country Western music in the USA. I thought it was the storytelling aspect. But, this instrument resonates even moreover.
The banjo originates from West and Central African stringed instruments, like the akonting and ngoni, which were brought to the Americas by enslaved people in the 17th and 18th centuries.
