DIY WOODEN COASTERS | Beginner and Intermediate Designs | #woodworking

In this video, I make two different types of WOODEN COASTERS. The beginner coasters are made with Hickory which gives the coasters a nice rustic look. For the intermediate level coasters, I used scrap wood from my shop. I glued together the different pieces of scrap wood and then ran the glue up through a planer. From this new laminated board, I cut out the coasters.

So have a miter saw and a few other tools but how do you make coasters without thousands of dollars in equipment

  4. @Ross_MC on July 24, 2025 at 6:46 pm

Couple of questions. What else could you use to seal the wood? i.e. a clear varnish or lacquer? Can you apply that AFTER the beeswax/oil mix?
    Tyia!

You should visit woodprix if you would like to make it by yourself I think.

  10. @clorr060482 on July 24, 2025 at 6:53 pm

Do you have the specs for what size you cut everything? Would really love to make a couple sets of these. I don’t have a planer, so I would just have to purchase a hickory board that’s S4S board. Thanks!

What kinda router bit radius did you put on these? 1/4”, 5/16”, 3/8”, 1/8”?

  28. @egorlisitsa4100 on July 24, 2025 at 7:22 pm

I made it by myself thanks to woodprix plans. I think it’s the best way to learn how to build that.

  29. @SawdustStarter on July 24, 2025 at 7:22 pm

Thanks for posting this! I’m still dialling in my coaster builds and these tips will come in handy for sure 👏
Love those really simple holders for stacking and displaying them in! Any tips for how to get this right without a thickness planer? I have a table saw, a trim router and plenty of hand planes.

  35. @tazgma311 on July 24, 2025 at 7:32 pm

can you used a hand plane to do the edges of coasters? was looking at other type of scape wood you form factor board was that long one 1x4x8 foot?

  36. @rogertyler3237 on July 24, 2025 at 7:32 pm

If It Wh’er Me I’d Use A Jack Plane
If I Cut Anything Small I Use A scroll Saw Or A Coping Saw.

  37. @miamited69 on July 24, 2025 at 7:33 pm

why not plane before cutting the boards up?

  38. @xokrissy13xo on July 24, 2025 at 7:35 pm

  42. @folcotook3049 on July 24, 2025 at 7:41 pm

Would possibly be good to pop the grain with water once (and a final sanding) before finishing. Have you ever had any issues with the grain popping when they get wet in use?
