Alaskan Native Rejuvenation
In the early 1900’s Alaska’s Natives children were sent to boarding schools against their parent’s wishes. Negative practices scarred many of the children for life, if they survived. This black and red sea otter coat on a cross represents the past and future of those who survived. August 2024 his coat was awarded “Innovation Award” at the largest Indian Market in the world, Sant Fe New Mexico. It was also published in Sant Fe New Mexican Sunday paper. Harvested hides, skinned, fleshed, cut, designed, and sewn by artist Christy Ruby of C. Ruby Designs.
