  12. @brickprik on September 24, 2025 at 10:02 pm

People don’t realize that the banjo is an instrument from north Africa. A gourd and string is the original fiddle, and it was the African slaves who brought it to the southern usa.

When I lived in several countries in Africa. I was somewhat surprised that many were fans of Country Western music in the USA. I thought it was the storytelling aspect. But, this instrument resonates even moreover.

    Africa big dreams!🌍🎢πŸ”₯✌🏿

  21. @EvoLeeSinister on September 24, 2025 at 10:12 pm

The banjo originates from West and Central African stringed instruments, like the akonting and ngoni, which were brought to the Americas by enslaved people in the 17th and 18th centuries.

This reminds me of the gourd fiddles played by African slaves and free blacks in the US until the 19th century. Maybe there’s a relation here?
