Art of our Ancestors: Kodiak Island

Alutiiq artist Perry Eaton discusses European and Russian museum collections of Alutiiq materials and their impact on today’s artists and Alutiiq culture. This lecture was held in 2015 at SHI as part of its Native American Heritage Month series.

Eaton, who grew up in Kodiak, is an internationally recognized artist and was the founding president and CEO of the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage. Two of his masks were featured in SHI’s 2017 exhibit “Alaska Native Masks: Art & Ceremony.”
