The Furniture Farmer | That's Amazing
In the heart of the bucolic county of Derbyshire, England, Gavin Munro tends to a unique crop: furniture. Munro grows completely natural household furnishings by carefully pruning and grafting trees over the course of a decade. Though the process requires patience, the beautiful results are both functional and sustainable.

Haha heβs sitting on a normal chair next to the chairs heβs growing
Super cool natural!
animal crossing
Don’t think he’s ever heard of chaps on the other side of the world doing the same thing. Those guys make 1 furniture every 10 days using bamboo with same enviro-hipster credentials. Their furniture are straighter too.
Very nice . But what is free name .
The ChairPerson!
Wadu hek
I wonder why this guy is sitting on a 50 year old chair rather than his own grown chair
The hanging lamp designs were the only practical application I see. These are botique items like aged wine. It takes decades to make.
Love from #INDIA
Or, you know, build bamboo furniture that you can actually sit and have sex on.
Brilliant

But I think it’s not practical
Or maybe it is

Nitai Stupid
I thought it said FORTNITE GAMER ππππ€£ππ
I believe he’s not sitting in any chairs because they are made of willow Which has wood not too dis-similar to that of poplar (as they are related) its not a very dense or strong wood. Sure their relatively fast growing but it this were to be repeated it should be done with Black Cherry, as it has really strong beautiful wood, grows quickly as in 5 feet per year and its relatively hardy. Edit: not to mention it grows fruit which can be sold or made into products.
*I’m growing a king size bed for my grand children βΊ*
What varietal was that?
That artsy farty shit won’t work.
Durbee shire…. ha
it’s darbi shire
I had to chek if it was April and it march 25. I want to know if he can make out sell traditional furniture makers close to his scale.
He should let the chairs grow for 20 years and then sell a dining room set for a million dollars. Someone will buy that shit.
What happens when wood dries? Answer it shrinks by about 60% . Causing wood issues this is why milling wood is done the way it’s done…
Pretty dang ingenious.
Wouldnt they wither away after a few years?
Did anyone eles notice they didnβt show anyone actually sitting on the chair?
Weight limit is ten pounds probably on the chairs.
30 years ago on a early summer morning at the only place I had peace and safety. My grandfather and grandmother woke me with the smell of breakfast. My grandfather would take me fishing and do those things My father couldnt(because of his heroin addiction) well after taking the 10 ft boat out and catching some blue gill we walked up the hill. My great grandfather used to own all the land surrounding grandpa’s trailer. Maybe acre or two. On the hill nothing was built there was a giant lone birch tree and my grandpa called it his magical spot according to his dad. There he told me of people who grew furniture and some even grew walking sticks . So he showed me how with a baby sugar maple. He said in 30 years you can come here with your son and cut this down and make a walking stick (lathing the length leaving a braded ball at top) so 20 years Later my wife and I were getting harrased by gypsies my dad (who inherited property sold trailer and adjacent property to junkie buddies (fake southern baptists who deal smack. ) well I got nervous and hung up a trail cam to keep an eye on this tree. Last week I went to go get ready to harvest it. It was stolen and stump was removed leaving absolutely nothing to even prove it existed except maybe its roots way down below. And my trail camera? Smashed and SD card removed…..several other trees stolen but know one knows anything (it’s on a private lake rd with no exit and cottages all the way down it. ) stealing my last peaceful place from me. my father and wife where only ones who knew this story. I lied to my dad and said grandpa hid some gold there and ever since his bud the adjacent property owner has been dredging out all surrounding hillside and destroying the land by the lake. It was a sacred energy spot. You could feel it now it’s dieing……when will we stand up to those destroying all that is sacred to people and physically stop them?
stunning stuff,,,,, but you can tell they are not the brightest businessmen
why isn’t he sitting on his own chairs? That single detail makes me think this whole video is a joke.
What plant is it?
its functional in France for made pitchfork.
This experimental furniture were made. Itβs obvious.
In long past, peasants and craftsmen have tried.
Why is he not sitting on a grown chair??
didn’t know there was a place called derbyshire, pretty sure its pronounced darbyshire
not functioning…
What do you do for work? Well, I collaborate with trees to grow furniture. Turns out the trees don’t like when you cut them down. They’d much rather be aloud to grow back.
Do you make stairs?
i’ll order the lamp one, not sure with the chair, it may broke to a fat ass like me. or you, and you!
They look interesting and good for him, but what lost me was the statement "The way we make furniture NOW…..", as though this will ever be more than a novelty.
Once the Kickstarter money runs dry, I don’t think they’ll be around long enough to fulfill your order for a chair 10 years from now.
Wow, he is the only guy that can say "i grow furniture"
