Nobody needs a fork. But you always need dry clothes – another pair of socks is always nice.

  30. @NamelessAimless on October 21, 2025 at 12:01 am

I no longer bring a backpack, when backpacking lol, just go for a walk with the clothes i wear, some herb and veggie garden seeds and water filter with soft bladder. tooth brush, and change of socks, that is about it. just got for a walk and see where i end up after a few weeks of walking. sometimes, normally 6 weeks is about my max adventure currently, yet i do a lot of trail to city to side of road type hikes. east coast greenway or el camino real farmers trail on west coast, and Appalachian trail are my current routes for the past 12+years …. lol

Exoficio underwear are the bomb, just 2 pairs and you are good in that department and don’t take food to cook it attracts animals for miles around especially bears if you are in bear country. I hiked a portion of the CDT in NM back in 2014 and I did not have cooked food I followed a recipe for backpacking cold food. Cooked food is a luxury but the other food made my body feel dynamite plus when I pooped my waste did not smell from the artificial ingredients.

Do hikers ever carry protection like bear spray or a sidearm? I saw a hiker say she encountered a bear cub but fortunately never saw the momma bear.

  44. @twochordcool on October 21, 2025 at 12:27 am

Sounds good but I also try to bring a washcloth so that I clean myself off in the lake or creek before putting my sleep clothes on – keeps my sleep clothes cleaner and I sleep better when I feel clean.

  45. @MK-eb5bf on October 21, 2025 at 12:29 am

Do you link your gear anywhere?

  46. @eatwhatukiii2532 on October 21, 2025 at 12:30 am

    Link to those pants please?

  47. @acester86 on October 21, 2025 at 12:30 am

its actually a good idea to bring 2 pairs of socks to hike in, the sleeping pair arent necessary in all situations, but changing your socks can keep your feet if one sock gets grit in it or theres a loose thread. your foot wont get rubbed constantly in the same spot as you hike if you change your socks back and forth.

  48. @TorenTerlouw on October 21, 2025 at 12:31 am

You really do have to pack as light as you can when you’re on long hikes y’all

  49. @dhs1981 on October 21, 2025 at 12:32 am

I once heard (cannot remember from where) that if you asked an experienced person if they would bring either 5 pair of socks and one pair of underwear, or the other way around, they would
