๐ Make a Keepsake Box in an Hour…. or Two
๐ Make a Keepsake Box in an Hour…. or Two
In this video I make a very simple Keepsake Box from scrap walnut and ash. I make a lot of these boxes and they are a very good use of the scrap wood I have laying around the shop. Because of its size I can use scraps that arenโt really useful for anything else and turn them into something elegant and useful. This easy to make keepsake or jewelry box can be made quickly and is a lot of fun to make.

wow that hinge allignment method with epoxy is genius
Thanks
You made this look so easy. I’ve watched your video several times and each time I’m amazed at how effortless you made this seem. I know it probably wasn’t. Nice work.
It’s good to see the woodprix has new instructions to save my money and energy to build it.
Very well made!
Bro sounds like the Actor for Ghost Rider๐
In comparison to the side pieces do you cut the bottom panel the same length ?
Best box build, I have seen so far. I will try this build,. Thanks
I like the simplicity of making that box. thanks for the idea ,
Flooring underlayment – great idea!
Itโs on the list of supplies to pick-up.
Thank you!
Gracias por su idea desde Costarica saludes
Great video, question, why no need to mortise the lid for the hinges. Seemed like you flush mounted them
Loved watching this. So detailed.
Do you ever glue the floor into the slot ? I notice that a little bit of glue from the miter joints probably gets into the ends of the slot. Is that enough ?
Thank you finally a box without dove tails
Great job
Very nice box! I’ve made a few of these lately but not as nice as yours. But, I did find a good idea. I added splines and also a tic tac toe contrasting insert which transformed it into a nice Tea box for the ladies in your life. They are very very popular, a nice kitchen centerpiece and low cost as I use cutoffs mostly. Good Job again! Thanks.
Nice, thank you!!!
is it possible to get results as good as this without a thickness planer or a jointer? what techniques would substitute for those two tools?
my seven year old grandson says thanks ๐
Great tutorial thanks
Did you make your table saw cut off device and have plans and info of attachment for miter cuts ?
What brand hardwood flooring underlay are you using in boxes floor? I only see a green Steico brand at HD or Loweโs ,
Thanks for your videos and time

8:01 that’s clever
anazing video bud, keep it up ๐
The simplicity of it is what makes it great. Like you mentioned, it’s also a great jumping off point to something a little fancier with extra attention. Thanks for sharing!
That’s a beauty, given its humble origins.

Nice to see an honest video! I was beginning to think I’m the only woodworker who doesn’t make perfect miters every time. Well done.
Awesome ๐น
How did you keep the lid from bowing?
Thanks for a great inspiring video, you did it coffin and now with this box build. You know Iโm very new to woodworking but Iโm going to build a nice box for our family bible thatโs been handed down to me. I will send some pics. Thanks again for challenging me.
Very nice – and a good reminder about notching the back /before/ assembly. I’ve see the lid/hinge/glue thing also done with CA. The carboard shims is a good trick too – Thanks –
Thanks for so many great ideas!
I absolutely love your videos. Your work is so damn nice.
Thank you! First time watching one of your videos and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Good video. Well explained how to make a wooden box.
Enjoyable little video but its hilarious how many videos like this demonstrate how to make something out of scraps and do it in a short amount of time. However they all forget that most people who do woodworking as a hobby dont have professional planer thicknesses and table saws, sleds etc so the actual process is nowhere as easy. if we had the professional saws and planers etc. we would probably already know how to make things like this?
I want to add a mirror to the bottom of the lid so I need a specific type of hinge so that the lid stays at 90 degrees?
Thats about the nicest crosscut sled I have ever seen. Love it!
Love this video. I have made a few boxes but can’t ever get the lid straight. I was wondering if a clear , thin double sidded tape would work as well. Thanks
That was very nicely presented. And the box turned out nicely too. Iโm 76 and late to woodworking.
Very late, in fact.
And in consideration of my age, my projects need to be not too demanding. And I do love the small boxes .
Plus I have children and grandchildren that someday might treasure a box such as this.
Ohโฆ..and unlike another viewer, I am nonplussed that you have top notch tools. One might wonder if this guyโs dentist is still labouring away with tools from the โ50โsโฆโฆ..like drills driven by pulleys and such. Ya think?
Thanks againโฆ..and I subscribed!
I like what you did with the keepsake box to make it simple and elegant at the same time. thanks for taking the the time to show us how it is done.
It does look easy, thanks for that. Iโve made one box in my life and that was many moons ago. I think Iโll try your way. Thank you sir!
Nice project! My only observation is about making the lid with one-piece of solid wood due to the high risk of it to cup overtime. I have myself been in these shoes and it’s a very frustrating experience to finish a great box just to realize a couple days later that the lid get warped. For this reason I avoid such type of lid as much as I can, BUT for projects that *demands* it there is a very interesting video in Rob Cosman channel on how to avoid this problem by using a thick MDF laminated with veneer in the place of solid wood (for the lid only).
I’m making a jewelry box for my sweetheart along the same lines as yours. Your tip on epoxying the hinges will help out a lot. Thanks.
Had to make a similar box for Navy Chief initiation. Wish I watched this video before I made mine, might have to redo.
E;oxy idea was worth the whole video. I’ve made hundreds of boxes, but this will save a lot of time.
Nice box โฆ love to have the plans for it
Very nice gift box. Really enjoyed this one. New subscriber.
I’m a beginner at woodworking so can you tell me, are you cutting a 45 degree angle for the mitered corners???
